Ashley Laura Barrett, better known as “AyBe Lexington,” is the new Indie artist to watch. Referred to as “R&B’s Hidden Gem,” she uses story-telling techniques in her lyrics to take you through her life tribulations. Her sound encompasses R&B and Hip-Hop, with a touch of Soul.

AyBe Lexington was born and raised in Baltimore County to a strong Christian household. Her introduction to music comes from her father who allowed her to attend many rehearsals with his gospel group, Reformation. Between the ages of 7 and 12, she became classically trained on the piano learning classics such as “Beethoven” and “Bach.”

At the young age of 14, AyBe Lexington began writing songs and recorded her first single, “Looking for Love.” Working out of her Uncle’s studio, she was given the opportunity to write songs for international artist Bruna Tatiana from Angol and other talented local artists.

In 2016, Ashley decided she wanted to brand herself as a recording artist, officially introducing herself as AyBe. In the summer of 2016, AyBe released her first single entitled “D’USSE,” and in the fall of 2017, AyBe released her first music video entitled “Missing You” in collaboration with EDM producer, FOMO. The video premiered before a sold-out crowd at the Metro Gallery in Baltimore City. Aybe has been featured on popular radio stations in the DMV area, 92Q Jams Hooligan Express and WPGC 95.5.

Recently in 2019, Aybe changed her name to Aybe Lexington, as she was gearing up to move to California she wanted a name to remind her of her hometown Baltimore. Lexington Market is a very known landmark in Baltimore city where Aybe Lexington’s father and mother used to take her and her siblings. When AyBe speaks about her biggest musical influences, she references legends such as Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Lauryn Hill, and Keri Hilson who have all inspired her in various ways. Currently, as an independent artist, AyBe is looking forward to continuing to globalize her sound, defy the limits of genres and music sterotypes, and solidify her place in the music industry.
